Teacher philosophy

How will I ensure that every student is successful in my classroom?

I aspire to transform my students into lifelong learners. My developing Lifelong Learners will develop a positive mindset about improving their study skills, learning strategies and improving their behavior. All students will be placed in flexible learning groups based on their learning profiles, which includes their interests, learning styles and current functioning. During the first two weeks of school, developing Lifelong Learners’ interests, learning styles and current functioning will be assessed.  Since students’ learning levels often fluctuates depending on the activity, formative assessments or checks for understanding will be determine their groups. Flexible groups have a symbol that represents their group. Each group is assigned varying learning activities based on the goal of mastering Georgia Standards of Excellence. The purpose of the flexible groupings is to help student have choices as well as multiple ways they can show they have mastered a concept. At least once a week each learner will have one on one or small group time with their teacher to give them instruction, and/ or feedback on their progress. Developing lifelong learners will also be asked to self-assess in various ways to help their teacher know where they are in their understanding of their lesson activity. Through choice assignments in group and individually learners will develop a love for learning by owning responsibility for their learning through honest and respectful communication with their teacher and fellow learners. As their Teacher, I will adjust lesson plans based on the various formative and summative assessments to meet their learning profile needs.
